Through the Mangroves at Tanjung Piai
A wooden boardwalk winds through the mangroves of Tanjung Piai National Park in Johor, Malaysia. Sunlight breaks through the canopy, tracing patches of light and shadow along the empty path.
The Story Behind
At Tanjung Piai National Park in Johor, I photographed this stretch of wooden boardwalk beneath the mangrove canopy. The railings draw a line into the trees, while the path bends just enough to hide what comes next.
I framed the walkway vertically, keeping the near boards and both railings in view. Against the darker trees at the edges, the sunlit leaves and patches of light on the timber give the photograph its depth. The canopy leaves only a narrow opening to the sky.
This photograph is about the forest around the path: slender trunks, overlapping leaves, and the shifting pattern of shade across the boards. For me, the composition comes together where the walkway narrows into the green.
